About Bert Frank

Heritage

Made in England

In an era of global mass production, British craftsmanship still stands apart.

At it’s core is a subtle confidence in timelessness — beautifully designed and masterfully made, for lasting presence, attention, and meaning.

Craftmanship in every light
Bert Frank is a shining example of British craft and craftsmanship. From our workshop in Birmingham – a place once at the heart of British metalworking and manufacturing -- we produce award-winning collections that stand shoulder to shoulder with the best the world can offer.

While embracing cutting-edge workflows, the handson ethos remains central. We work in the way it was always done, when the craftsman reigned supreme, now taken to new heights of precision that cutting-edge technology makes possible.

We are not a factory, and we hold no stock. Everything is made to order, carried out by highly skilled technicians proud of their work. It’s painstaking and precise, because as the legacy of English craftsmanship dictates, good enough can never be good enough.
HERITAGE MEETS INNOVATION
This blend of tradition and technology is emblematic of a broader British craft renaissance. Keeping skills alive is vitally important.

If these skills are lost, it may be forever, but we don’t preserve them for pure nostalgia. They are the guarantee of unmistakable quality, with unmatched attention to detail, mastery and control. They are our heart and soul, and when you see the makers touch present on every surface, you know that each piece is perfect in it’s own unique way, and crafted just for you.

From Savile Row tailors to Northampton
shoemakers. Prestige gunmakers, cabinet and
furniture makers. Luxurious coachbuilding, precision engineering and innovation. It’s no coincidence that across the world, discerning buyers looking only for the very best, are consistently reassured by perhaps the greatest mark of quality there is.

Made in England.
Where good enough will never be good enough.
About Image

I believe that British craftsmanship is about doing things properly. Every piece is made to stand the test of time, in both design and function. Quality is our legacy, and it’s what gives a Bert Frank light lasting value.

Our Story

Lightmakers of Distinction

Hand-made in England, and guided not by fleeting trends but by enduring principles, at Bert Frank we craft lighting that both illuminates and elevates — defining spaces and bringing them quietly to life.

In the workshop of our Master Lightmaker, skilled hands do more than shape materials. They shape atmosphere, emotion and experience. In a fusion of traditional methods and modern precision, surfaces meet seamlessly, and edges are honed to perfection.

Each block of sand-cast brass, every globe of hand-blown glass, is sculpted with obsessive care. Not mass-produced but masterfully made, one unique piece at a time, we uncover the natural beauty and variation in our materials, and allow the heritage in our process to leave its subtle mark. Through texture and tooling, inclusions and impurities, the hand of the craftsman is always visible.
Inspired by the geometric simplicity of Art Deco and the understated elegance of mid-century design, each piece is a conversation between eras. Between past and present. Between beauty and purpose, where form follows function, but never without grace. The creation of a timeless luxury. Not loud, but felt, again and again.

Bert Frank is committed to the most British of ideas – if it is to be done at all, it should be done properly. To make light, with weight. With presence and character. From the dramatic focus for your entertaining space, to the peaceful glow in your quietest corner, every Bert Frank piece is built to light – and delight – for a lifetime.
Pushing Boundaries

Bert Frank Galleries

To light a room is to create emotion and experience within it. To shift mood, playfully reflecting and responding to natural light throughout the day, and projecting controlled ambiance as the evening draws in.

Our galleries are places where clients can come and experience light at work, and see for themselves how curated consideration can breathe life into the spaces they create.

Our first permanent gallery in Clerkenwell – London’s vibrant interior design and architecture hub – is a relaxing discovery space, where you can experience selected collections, and discuss your vision with our curators. You can learn about our methods and processes and see for yourself the underlying quality and craftsmanship that sets a Bert Frank piece apart.
A second gallery is currently in development in Pimlico. This immersive space, set among the classic grandeur of one of Mayfair’s most elegant neighbourhoods, will focus on bringing our collections to discerning, design-conscious homeowners looking to take beautiful living to the next level.

Bert Frank also attend the most prestigious design shows around the world. Our award-winning temporary galleries are designed to surprise and inspire, bringing light into experimental spaces and pushing the boundaries of what light can be.
About Image

We are delighted and humbled that our 10th year at the show can be marked with being awarded such an accolade. The journey to create both stands was ambitious, but I am delighted that, together, they showcase the essence of Bert Frank.

Tradition meets Technology

Our Workshop

Bert Frank lighting is manufactured in Birmingham, the home of British engineering since Victorian times.

The Bert Frank factory in Birmingham – the “City of a thousand trades” whose prosperity was built on a global reputation for manufacturing excellence – is living proof that British craftsmanship is very much alive.

Our small but perfectly formed workshop is no 19th century throwback, however; it’s a forward-thinking, switched-on, technologically advanced factory employing highly skilled machinists and vastly experienced fabricators – people who take immense pride in their work.
Despite the use of cutting edge, computer-aided machinery, Bert Frank lamps are very much ‘hand-made’ items produced in small numbers, often to meet a customer’s precise specifications – as near bespoke as possible.
